About Glue Boiling
Animal glues are made from fresh, degreased bones, hides, or fish waste by thermal hydrolysis and hot-water extraction. The resulting glue solutions are purified, gently concentrated in multi-stage vacuum evaporators, cooled into solid gel form, then crushed and dried.
The profession of the glue boiler was already known in ancient Greece.
In 1690, the first commercial glue factory was founded in the Netherlands. About 60 years later, the first patent for a fish glue intended for carpentry was registered.
