During his creative period, well-known Swiss violin makers were employed or trained by Züst. Among them were Eugen Tenucci, Oskar Bischofberger, Fritz Sprenger, Carl Mächler and his grandson Paul Reinhard Bänzinger. Ansaldo Poggi also worked in his studio from time to time.
In the 1930s, the company ran into economic difficulties and was purchased by the Jecklin piano house, where it was sold and continued under the name ‘J.E. Züst, Special Department for Violin Making’. Züst retired in 1939.
